H.E. Geraldine Byrne Nason
Her Excellency Geraldine Byrne Nason has served as Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States since August 2022. Previously, she was Ireland’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2017–2022), where she led Ireland’s successful campaign for a seat on the Security Council and chaired the UN Commission on the Status of Women. She has also served as Ambassador to France, Deputy Permanent Representative to the EU, and Second Secretary General in the Department of the Taoiseach—making her Ireland’s highest-ranking female civil servant at the time. Her diplomatic postings have included Brussels, New York, Paris, Vienna, and Helsinki. She holds an honorary doctorate from Maynooth University and is a member of the Royal Irish Academy. A native of County Louth, in 2020 she was awarded the Freedom of Drogheda.
